Border Music UK started in 2006, originally called “Chirk Music”.
The ethos in those Start Up days was to be a “Local Business for Local People”.
We accepted poems and words from poets and artists around the Anglo-Welsh Border, and put them to music. Much of our time was spent teaching Music to people of all ages; how to write their own songs, how to play various instruments; guitars, bass, drums, keyboard.
Over the years, we have had students from all the local schools: Dinas Bran, Rhyn Park, Ellesmere, Chirk Infants, Glyn Ceiriog and Pentre. Pentre School even opened up their hall for group sessions – that was a fun time!
The ages of our students range from 5 year olds to 65 year olds.
Recently, our focus has broadened, and we have spent a lot of time in Recording Studios, recording student's songs, Songs for Weddings and other Special Occasions, finally producing albums and making them available for sale.
"Our conviction is that Music crosses all boundaries – there are no age, race or gender restrictions"
Use of the internet and email have suddenly broadened our customer base to World Wide – songs can now be written for people anywhere in the world. We have safe ftp sites where large music files can be shared, and we accept payment by PayPal.
All the surrounding councils: Wrexham, Denbighshire and Shropshire, have awarded us with clean CRB disclosure certificates. This enables us to go into schools and hold: “Music Workshops for Aspiring Musicians and Song Writers”, working with class teachers to meet the criteria of Key Stages 1 to 4, and on Talent Shows, school projects, presentations, assemblies etc.
Instrument lessons are generally given at our studio in 73 Offa, Chirk, LL14 5DJ where there is a comfortable waiting room for parents and friends.
